Digital SLR

So I am seriously thinking of joining the throngs of digital SLR users. I have been looking at ksl classifieds and there are like a million used ones ranging in price from $150 to $1,200. The problem is that I have no idea what I am looking for. I am looking for something that is easy to use and takes great photos. Everything else I am clueless on, I took a phototography class in High School, but that is not much help now. If anyone has any suggestions on brands or what to look for I would love to hear them.

Preview

So my mom and I took these photos at Gardner Village last week. I am really happy with them. I am not done scrapping but I really wanted to get a couple of the cute ones up. A friend just sent me a couple of sites with photo editing tips, I am eager to try to see if I can make them even better.

Milk + DVR = Near Disaster

So we have finally started the whole dangerous toddler phase. Emily loves to play in the TV cabinet, she opens and closes it over and over. She often hides her most prized possessions in the TV cabinet for safe keeping. Last night she was engrossed in her typical activities when I noticed that the TV went black and white, upon closer inspection I also noticed that her "non-spill" sippy cup had spilled on top of the DVR. Hoping first to avoid electrocution and second to save my best friend the DVR I rushed to unplug it, but before I did it turned off by itself, very bad sign. I unplugged the DVR, turned it upside down to dry out, put Emily to bed and spent the rest of the evening mourning the loss of our DVR. This morning when I got up I plugged it in hoping that it would work, and much to my surprise it seems no long term damage was done!

Emily is a seriously busy kid. At church it is especially obvious. She does pretty well in sacrament, but by Sunday school she has had enough. Today she spent all of Sunday school doing laps around the room saying "hi" to everyone and trying to get in the ladies purses. I swear she is half raccoon. Emily says hi to everyone, many random strangers have been surprised by the friendliness of my daughter. I have never seen her afraid of anyone.

Emily's vocabulary is also growing at an alarming pace. Yesterday I started counting all the words she could say and came up with about 23, since then she has learned touchdown, cat (or gat), rock, and open. If we say it over and over a few times and show her what it means she seems to be able to say it.

Needless to say I am totally captivated by this little one. She is so fun to be with, she makes the world so much more fun.

This fall I have become determined to build up our supply of food. My mom and I cut, peeled, and froze two boxes of the most amazing peaches you have ever tasted. We also made apricot and strawberry jam. Most recently we picked about 50 lbs of pears off of my Aunt Gloria's tree. The pears are SOOOOOOO good, but they also are a giant pain in the butt because you have to peel them. So far I have 14 bottles done, and I think that I am only about 1/2 way done. Oh well eventually I will get it all done. My mom was planning on helping, but ended up going to St. George to be with my brother and his family. My sister-in-law is sick and my mom is down helping.

Also I wanted to post a link to a friend's cousin's website http://spidermanfightscancer.com/ . He is such a cute little boy and his family is really struggling financially since they don't have health insurance. If anyone is up for a 5k I really encourage you to donate. This really hit me hard. I can't imagine watching Emily fight for her life.

Waiting

With Emily I felt like every week of pregnancy crawled by. It was the longest 9 months of my life. Since then my life has been in turbo mode. Every week seems like a day. I am always a little shocked to discover that another month has gone by. I have several friends that are pregnant and due about the same time I am. They have little count downs posted on thier blogs. Today when I checked I was relieved that we are still in the +100 day phase. I am totally not ready for this baby and need at least another 100 days.
